Why I picked this

“Nominate yourself for the Processing Foundation Fellowship to get $10,000 and eight months to build open-source creative tools with your community. You must be based in the U.S. and meet the requirements of your chosen track.”

H Harshit, curator

About this opportunity

The Processing Foundation Fellowship gives artists, educators and engineers in the U.S. eight months and a $10,000 stipend to build open-source creative tools with their communities. It has run since 2013, and p5.js and the p5.js Editor both began with Fellowship support. In 2027 there are three tracks. Collective Intelligence is remote from anywhere in the U.S. and co-designs creative AI education tools with the Mark Cuban Foundation's youth community. Gaming the System is hybrid in Los Angeles and builds an open-source game design toolkit with underserved communities. DIY Computing is hybrid in New York City and is for early-career artists with hardware prototyping experience, who build open-source cyberdeck-style toolkits with a local community. Every project must build on a Processing Foundation open-source project such as p5.js or Processing 4.x. Fellows also get mentorship, a cohort, professional development, public chances to share their work and entry to the alum network. The fellowship runs from January 25 to September 26, 2027. It starts with a nomination, and you can nominate yourself. Nominations close November 1, 2026 at 11:59PM PST. Selected nominees are then invited to write a project proposal and attend a video interview. Pick the track that fits you and open the nomination form.
