About this opportunity
The Build for Bharat Fellowship is a six-month paid fellowship run by Bharat Digital, where you work inside a government department on real problems and real codebases. It is not a hackathon: past fellows have shipped changes to government systems within their first month, and some have helped redesign or launch services used by millions of people.
It is open to Indian citizens who are students or early-career professionals, graduating in 2027 or having graduated in 2024, 2025 or 2026, with demonstrable skills in Design (UI/UX/user research), Artificial Intelligence or Engineering. You apply to one of these three tracks.
Fellows receive ₹40,000 a month for six months. You also get an orientation before you start, field visits, regular mentoring from Bharat Digital's core team, office hours with leading technologists and a champion in your department. Departments and locations are assigned by Bharat Digital and revealed at orientation. The fellowship starts in January. More than 80% of the 2026 cohort now work in government or public technology.
