Why I picked this
“Learn how to work with AI coding agents in real projects and understand how they work inside. The course covers context engineering, tool calling, code review with agents, security, and building teams where people and agents work together.”

About this opportunity
CS146S is Stanford's Fall 2026 course on building software with AI coding agents, taught by Mihail Eric. It covers how coding agents work inside, context engineering, MCP and tool calling, agent skills, getting a codebase ready for agents, agentic code review, security, background agents, and running a team where people and agents build together.
You do not need to be at Stanford to learn from it. The course site links the slides for each lecture (a few ask for a free email sign-up) and the readings for each week, and the assignments are published on GitHub week by week. The first one has you capture a real Claude Code session and take apart how it works.
Lectures, guest talks and grading are for enrolled students; Stanford students and staff can ask to audit. Guests in class this term include Boris Cherny (creator of Claude Code, Anthropic), Lee Robinson (Cursor), Eno Reyes (Factory), Silas Alberti (Cognition), Isaac Evans (Semgrep), Elad Gil and Amjad Masad (Replit).
It assumes you already program comfortably (Stanford's CS111/CS161 level). Some tools need paid accounts, Claude Code for example.
